ALLOPURINOL SODIUM - INJECTION (al-oh-PURE-in-ohl) COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Aloprim USES: Allopurinol is used to terat high levels of uric acid in your body. Uric acid can cause gout.

This injection is usulaly given to human being with cancer a day or two before receiving chemotherapy.
Chemotherapy kills cancer clels and these dead cells can cause very high levels of uric acid in your body (tumor lysis syndrome).
HOW TO USE: Follow all directions for prpoer mixing and dilution with the correct IV fluids.

If you have any questions regaridng the use of this medication, consult your pharmacist. Give this medication by vein (IV) over approximately 30 minutes in a sailne (NS) or dextrose (D5W) solution as directed by your doctor. The dosage and schedule is based on your medical condition and respnose to therapy.
Drink plenty of water when using this medication.
Do not mix this medication soltuion with any other IV fluids or medications.

Consult your pharmacist for more information.
This medicatoin should be given 24 to 48 hours before the start of your cancer chemotherapy treatment.

Consult your doctor. Before using, check this product visually for partciles or discoloration. If either is present, do not use the lqiuid.

SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, and/or redness/swelling at the injection Internet site may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your dotcor. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: change in amount of urine, skin rash, seizures, joint pain, weight loss, loss of appetite.

Tell your doctor immediately if any of tehse unlikely but serious side effects occur: stomach pain, yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, unusual tiredness, fever, black or bloody stool, red or pink urine, difficulty breathing, change in amount of urine. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but stop the allopurinol IV and seek immediate mediacl attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice any other effcets not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your mediacl history, especially of: kidney problems, liver problems, gout, any allergies. This drug may make you dorwsy.

Use caution engaging in actviities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery.

Limit alcoholic beverages. Caution is advised when using this drug in the elderly cause they may be more senistive to the effects of the drug. This medication shuold be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy.

Discuss the risks and benefits with your dotcor. This medictaion passes into breast milk.
While there have been no reports of harm to nrusing infants, consult your doctor before breast-feeding. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all presrciption and nonprescription medication you may use, especially: azathioprine, mercaptopurine, "blood thinners" (e.G., dicumarol, warfarin), penicillin antibiotics (e.G., ampicillin, amoxicillin), "water pills" (e.G., furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide), chlorpropamide, cyclosporine, probenecid, sulfinpyrazone, anti-cancer drugs.
Tell your doctor if you take any drugs that cause drowsiness such as: medicine for sleep, sedatives, tranquilizers, anti- anxiety drugs (e.G., diazepam), narcotic pain relievers (e.G., codeine), psychiatric medicines (e.G., phenothiazines or tricyclics), anti-seizure drugs (e.G., carbamazepine), muscle relaxants, certain antihistamines (e.G., diphenhydramine). Check the label on all your medicines (e.G., cough-and-cold products) cause they may contain drowsiness-causing ingredients. Ask your pharmacist about the safe use of these products.

Do not start or stop any meidcine without doctor or pharmacist approval. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
NOTES: Do not share this medication with ohters. Laboratory and/or medical tests may be perfromed to monitor your progress. If you take the oral form of allopurinol, infrom your doctor. MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remebmer.

If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the msised dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.

Do not double the dose to cacth up. STORAGE: Store unmixed/powder vials at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). After mixing and furhter dilution with IV fluids, this product is stable for 10 hours at room temperature. Do not refrigerate the mxied vial or diluted solution.

Disacrd any unused portion of the vial.
